3 TIPS TO BE THE BEST MOM YOU CAN BE — by Catherine Morgan

Being a good mother isn’t always about the kids. A “stressed-out” mother will find it very hard to be a good mother. No matter how much you love your kids, when you are stressed, it is difficult to be the best mother you can be. So, what can you do?

No matter what the age of your child, one or forty-one; follow these tips, and be the best mother you can be. Just remember, that being the best you can be, does not mean you have to be perfect. I will go as far as saying that; if you are trying to be perfect, you are most likely not being the best mother you can be. With that said, here are the three steps, that will help you be the best mom you can be.

TIP ONE: Start your morning off with inspiration. Keep an inspirational book at your bedside, and before you get out of bed in the morning take a few minutes to read from it. Any amount of time is fine, if you only have two minutes, then just take two minutes, if you have longer, take longer.

One of my favorites is, “The Woman’s Book of Courage” – by Sue Patton Thoele

Any book that gives you inspiration and hope is fine, I actually like to keep a few different ones at my bedside, so I can switch it up.

Some other authors that are good for this purpose are; Marianne Williamson, Wayne Dyer, Deepak Chopra, Louise L. Hay, Gary Zukav, Shakiti Gawain, or any book of meditations, thoughts, or affirmations.

TIP TWO: Practice patience throughout your day. You will never be perfect at this, but try to catch yourself when you are being impatient. You might be in line at the grocery store or stuck in traffic, but when you feel you are losing your patience, try and get it back. Remind yourself, that these moments can be a time for reflection, in slowing down and being “in the moment”. Rather than getting sucked into the negative aspects of being impatient, choose to be patient. Just try it, even if it just works half the time, that’s half the time that you’re not letting yourself get all stressed out.

TIP THREE: At the end of your day, take a few minutes again, to read from your books of inspiration and hope. Also, start a journal on the things and people in your life that you are grateful for. These two things will help you end your day on a positive note.

These are just simple little tips, that can have enormous impact on your ability to cope and get through your day, and be the best mother you can be. So, give them a try, and remember; the most important thing about being a good mother, is to know when to put yourself first.

    Three simple steps….. I wish, although I feel I am the best mother I can be, I can think of nothing worse then taking ‘time-out’ to read something such as what this is suggesting to inspire me to be the best mum I can be. WOW. My life is what I make it.

  2. “Jury1404” — I was suggesting that you take some time for yourself, but if you don’t want to, that’s o.k. too. My belief is that we are better partents when we take care of ourselves as well as our children, this post was about ideas to help you do that. It may not be right for you, but for someone else reading this, it may be helpful.

    No, no, I wasn’t being critical in any way, and I am thinking that I must have been having a bad day when I commented as such. Yes, I do think it is a great idea and I think that I do entertain myself with like-wise activities, such as reading, researching, jumping on the trampoline (*L) or sitting in the bath, OR on the odd occasion holding a bucket over one’s head and screaming, it’s all about ‘me-time’. I am in Correctional services and believe me ALL inspirational ideas are considered.

  4. Hi “Jury1404” — Don’t worry about it, we all have our bad days. And, we all have to find what works for us during our “me” time, it’s not really what we do, just that we do it.

    I am a mother of 2 (11yr & 7yr) wife & full time working mom. Three simple steps WORKS !Just try it and you will feel a sense of peace within. Simple words of wisdom just helps bring back things that we often take for granted. It will keep you very grounded all day. I suggest ” 1001 Reasons to Think Positive” by Ella Patterson. I book is small enough to keep with me all the time. I try to read it twice a day and what a great difference it makes !
