Sally Field at Emmys Is Censored…If women ruled the world, would there still be war???

Posted by Catherine Morgan on September 16, 2007

FOX CENSORS SALLY FIELD – FOX Hosts The Emmy’s and Censors Sally Field’s Comments on the War. Shocking! Not, so much.

Sally Field said on live television (unfortunately, with a five second delay) what every one of us already knows…If women (particularly mothers) ruled the world, there would be no more war.

From The Huffington Post

“If mothers ruled the world, there wouldn’t be any god -” Emmy winner Sally Field said before the Emmycast cut her off her sound and pointed the camera away from the stage so viewers would be distracted. Cut off were the words “god-damned wars in the first place.”

From LAtimes.com

Backstage, in the press room later, Field told reporters, “I would have liked to have said more four-letter words up there!

“Oh, well. I’ve been there before!” Field added when asked what she thought of the gagging. “Good. I don’t care. I have no comment other than, ‘Oh, well.’ I said what I wanted to say. I wanted to pay homage to the mothers of the world. And I very, very seriously think that if mothers ruled the world we wouldn’t be sending our children off to be slaughtered.”

When she was pressed for further comment, she added, “Too bad. That’s a shame. And I think I probably shouldn’t have said the ‘god’ in front of the ‘damn.’

Apparently she’s never heard of Golda Meir, Margaret Thatcher, Cleopatra VII, Boudicca, Zenobia of Palmyra, etc, etc, etc.

Why is War and everyone’s personal opinion on it, beening aired at all during an awards show??? They do not have the right to use this arena to air their views on something nobody wants (dah) and that’s WAR. If she or anyone else has something to publicly say, they can go on a talk show! I turned the channel to football after seeing that “display”.

Another thought, She should have quiet after the applause and walked away, because up to that point, what she said was heart felt and had meaning. Suddenly, she became a blobbering idiot up there, using the stage for the wrong purpose, thank you Fox for saving us from hearing any more!!

Isn’t there an old saying, “Know when to quit, before you embarrass yourself”. Unfortunately, she didn’t.

Normally, I don’t reply to blogs I see posted, but I have been replying to almost ever single blog I see about this. Being both a woman and a mother, I was glad to hear Sally do that. She spoke up for mothers all over the US that have the same views. War honestly, is a horrible thing. No, we can’t stop it but to be bashed for stating an opinion is wrong too.

As far as her stumble…Lets see any of us, stand before millions of people. Lose your train of thought, then have to regain it, AFTER winning an award, like the Primetime Emmy for best actress. I have been trained in speaking & I know for a fact it is easy to get off track when something causes you to lose focus. I think she did great.

Personally, I could have done with out the GD word, but hey, when you are impassioned about something you speak from the heart not always the mind.

  6. Hi Rene and Roberta — I think Sally Field said what many of us (who don’t have such a large platform to speak from) would have wanted to say.

    Thanks for your comments.
